Spacing and light level are worked out by the lumen method from your room size, your ceiling height and this fitting's real lumen output — the same sums a lighting designer starts with. It assumes an empty rectangular room with light-coloured surfaces and a 0.8 maintenance factor, so beams, bulkheads, dark walls and furniture will shift it. Send it to us and we'll check it properly. Downlights must be installed by a licensed electrician.
